Behind the organization
We're the ones that are behind this organization! We plan logistics for the club and are responsible for running meetings, communicating information, and making sure our events go smoothly. However, this is made possible by you and your participation in the club! We are so glad you are here. Feel free to connect with us! We are here to help you and answer your questions about the club. Additionally, we would like to thank our amazing orchestra teacher and club sponsor, Mr. Sanz, for making this club possible.
Andy Yu ('23)
Co-President Hi everyone! I’m Andy, a composer and pianist. Since freshman year, I've become inseparable from the music scene at Churchill. I've composed and arranged music for BLAST 32, Pep Band, and Wind Symphony, and am an avid performer in several of Churchill's musical ensembles. I'm also an officer of Churchill's chapter of Tri-M, the national music honor society. Outside of Churchill, my pieces have been performed by Sandbox Percussion, flutist Mimi Stillman, piano trio Triple Helix, and chamber ensemble Kassia Music. I received a 5 in the AP Theory Exam in eighth grade; won the MTNA Competition for Maryland in 2019 and the Eastern Division in 2021; and was accepted into summer programs at Curtis (2020), Tanglewood (2021), and most recently, Brevard (2022) on a $2,000 scholarship. Outside of music, I enjoy running, traveling, and memorizing useless pieces of trivia. You can listen to my pieces at my YouTube channel. |
Lucy Chen ('23)
Co-President Hi, I’m Lucy! I love playing music, making music, and using the power of music to impact my community. I’ve played piano since the age of 4, and I play the violin for my school orchestra, MCYO, and All-State (2020 & 2021). I also started studying composition in 2020- some of my awards include placing in BMI and Morton Gould’s Composer Awards and the National Young Composer Challenge. I run an organization called the Young Artists Music Society where we provide musical resources to the community. Besides music, I love skiing, shopping, and watching sunsets! |
Faith Zhang ('23)
Vice President Hi!! My name is Faith Zhang, and I play the violin. I've done a whole bunch of violin stuff, like MCYO, All-County/State Junior Orchestra, YAA, countless competitions, and much, much more. I'm happy to help anyone who needs it, music or not. I'm really excited to be a part of this club, especially when music is super fun to me! If I'm not practicing (forty hours a day), you can usually find me drawing, reading books or studying for AP tests. |
Kachi Ezuma-Ngwu ('23)
Secretary Hello! My name is Kachi. Despite my usual frown, I am incredibly happy to contribute to this family. Music has been a joy to delve into and the backbone of my development throughout middleschool and highschool. From the Churchill Orchestra to PVYO to MCYO to YAA, music has captivated me and allowed me so many opportunities to meet like minds and build incredible bonds. I look forward to serving as your secretary this year and expanding the joy of music to more and more people! |
Edward Wang ('25)
Secretary Hello! I’m Edward. I’ve been taking piano lessons since the age of 5, and I’ve also started playing clarinet in middle school. I try my hardest in both instruments. I strongly believe that music inspires change and creates lasting bonds between the people in our community. I’m still trying to develop and improve my musicianship and skills every day, and I’m happy to help anyone on that same path. I’ve completed ABRSM Music Theory Grade 5 & Piano Grade 8 Exams in 5th grade with merit and distinction as well as participated and won in many competitions from MSMTA, YMIC, and more. I’ve also made All-State consecutively and participated in both PVYO & MCYO. I’m on my way to self-studying AP Music Theory to take the exam directly, and I hope to meet new people along the way and share our knowledge. |
Katie Xiang ('24)
Marketing Manager Hey hey! I'm Katie Xiang, a passionate musician who has been playing the piano for 10 years and the viola for nearly 3 years. I've participated in a couple orchestras since starting viola such as MCYO (YA, SYM, CE) and All State 2020+2021 as assistant principal of the viola section (viola gang!) I've been trained in music theory since starting piano and am currently studying the final two levels offered by Celebrate Harmony books. When I'm not buried in sheet music and textbooks, you can find me playing Minecraft or spoiling my obese hamster Chloe <3. |
